Frequently Asked Questions

The following frequently asked questions have been compiled to assist graduating students and their guests in preparing for Commencement.

What time should I arrive?

Graduating students should plan to arrive at the Tsongas Center by 8:30 a.m., dressed in full academic regalia, including cap, gown, hood, tassel, and any applicable cords or stoles.

What is the GPS address for the Tsongas Center?

300 Arcand Drive, Lowell, MA 01852

Where should I park?

Graduating students and guests are welcome to park at the George A. Ayotte Garage, which is located directly adjacent to the Tsongas Center. You can through the garage’s website.

When I arrive, where do I go?

Graduating students should check in at the large tent in Lot B. You’ll receive your name card there and be directed to the lineup area.

When can guests enter the Tsongas Center?

The main entrance doors open at 9:00 a.m. Seating is first-come, first-served, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to get a good seat.

How many guests am I allowed to invite?

There is no guest limit. You are welcome to invite as many family members and friends as you’d like to share in your celebration.

Is there handicapped parking available?

Handicapped parking on-site is very limited. Guests who need assistance are encouraged to be dropped off near the west side entrance of the Tsongas Center, which provides access to the handicapped entrance ramp.

Is there handicapped seating available?

Yes. Handicapped seating is available on the concourse level of the Tsongas Center. Tsongas Center staff will be happy to assist you upon arrival.

What time does Commencement start?

The procession begins promptly at 10 a.m. Graduating students will line up outside under the tent and be escorted in by the marshals. Please note that students arriving after 9:30 a.m. may not be able to walk in the ceremony.

Are there any venue policies I should know about?

Yes. The Tsongas Center has bag restrictions and other venue policies in place. Please before you arrive to ensure a smooth entry.

Do I have to stay for the entire ceremony?

Yes. All graduating students are asked to remain for the full duration of the program out of respect for their fellow graduates.

How long is the ceremony?

The ceremony length varies depending on the number of students participating, but plan for approximately two hours.

Will my photo be taken when I cross the stage?

Yes. Rivier partners with Grad Images to capture your moment on stage. About seven days after Commencement, you’ll receive an email at your Rivier address with information about viewing and purchasing your portraits. You can also visit directly. If you haven’t heard from Grad Images after that window, reach out to them at 1-800-261-2576 or ecc.giservices@gradimages.net.

Can I purchase flowers at the venue?

Yes. A flower vendor will be set up in the front lobby of the Tsongas Center, so you can grab a bouquet to mark the occasion.
