{"id":368,"date":"2019-06-26T16:56:17","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T20:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rivier.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=368"},"modified":"2024-09-20T11:18:53","modified_gmt":"2024-09-20T15:18:53","slug":"confidentiality","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rivier.edu\/student-life\/health-and-well-being\/counseling-wellness\/confidentiality\/","title":{"rendered":"Confidentiality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Counseling and Wellness Center, we know that in order for a person to do the healing work of therapy, they must trust a counselor with very private and sensitive information.<\/p>\n<p>Our counselors adhere to state laws, ethical principles, and codes of conduct required by their degrees, licenses, and professional organizations. Confidentiality is a key requirement of adherence.<\/p>\n<p>All information concerning utilization of our services is confidential. Confidential information cannot be released to any party without the student\u2019s written consent, except under the following circumstances:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Imminent Danger: <\/strong>If the student is determined to be in imminent danger of harming him\/herself or someone else, counselors will take necessary protective measures that may involve releasing information to parents, police officers, or hospital staff.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abuse\/Neglect: <\/strong>If a counselor suspects abuse, neglect, and\/or exploitation of minors or vulnerable adults, he or she must comply with state laws that require reporting to appropriate agencies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legal Considerations: <\/strong>If a student\u2019s counselor is served with a subpoena or court order, he or she may be required to give information to a judge or a court of law. New Hampshire state law also indicates that parents\/legal guardians of minor clients may have access to their clinical record.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supervision: <\/strong>A counselor may be working on a graduate degree and, as a consequence, is being supervised by a senior member of the staff in order to provide the highest quality treatment. A student under his\/her care will be provided any information requested concerning the purpose and scope of such supervision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the
