Rivier’s humanities and social science programs are grounded in the University’s historic focus on the dignity of all individuals, an authentic learning community, and deep respect for intercultural traditions and beliefs. With limitless paths, students don’t just find a career, they discover their passion.

The department’s faculty bring both a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to our classrooms, combining expertise in a variety of disciplines including English, law, history, political science, philosophy, sociology, and religion. They will guide students as they explore their interests and aptitudes to launch the careers and futures of which they’ve dreamed.

Rivier’s Criminal Justice program provides students with a strong foundation in the justice system, criminology, and the social factors that shape crime and public safety. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students develop the critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and practical skills needed to pursue careers in law enforcement, corrections, advocacy, policy, and related fields while making a positive impact in their communities.

Building on Rivier’s 90-year tradition of delivering a Catholic liberal arts education, the Environmental Studies and Sustainability major equips students with the skills to critically examine environmental challenges through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
